Johnny Mize Athletic Center and Cave Arena

The home of the Piedmont University men’s and women’s basketball programs and the Piedmont University volleyball team is the Johnny Mize Athletic Center. Opened in the spring of 2000, the 4.4 million dollar facility also houses the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is one of the premier collegiate arenas for NCAA Division-III athletics in the southeast. The facility, named after former Demorest resident and 1981 Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Johnny Mize, houses the 1,200 seat Cave Arena where all three programs play all home contests. Named after former Piedmont basketball coach O’Neal Cave, the arena is complete with a newly renovated playing floor. Overlooking Cave Arena is a soft-surface walking track that doubles as a spectator viewing area on game nights. In addition, the facility includes a state-of-the-art two-story fitness center, locker rooms for the home and visiting programs, athletic training rooms with rehabilitation centers, a classroom, offices for the Piedmont University athletics staff, and the Johnny Mize Baseball Museum. 

 Walker Athletic Field

Walker Field has been the home of the Piedmont University men’s and women’s soccer programs since the programs’ inception in 1992 and is scheduled to be home of the inaugural men's lacrosse program starting in 2012. Named in honor of Webster Upson Walker, the field is located at the base of the state-of-the-art Johnny Mize Athletic Center. This newly renovated playing facility features a fully-lighted 120x70 artificial turf field surface completed in the fall of 2010. The recent renovations also include new spectator seating located along the Florida Street side of the field as well as embanked seating areas along the goal line area. Locker rooms for both the men’s and women’s programs and the men's lacrosse program are located at the top of the hill at the base of the Johnny Mize Athletic Center and provide locker space for each athlete as well as fully equipped shower and storage facilities. The complex appeals to both players and fans alike with its state-of-the-art design as well as bleacher seating and grassy hills that encompass the facility providing a front-row view for all spectators and a first-class experience for student-athletes.

From Atlanta, GA: I-85 North to I-985. I-985 becomes GA 365 in Gainesville, GA Take GA 365 North to Demorest-Helen exit (US Historic Route 441), Left to Demorest. Travel 1.5 miles to Florida St. (Exxon station on the right), take right. Straight thru stop sign, bus/van entrance to the Johnny Mize Center on left.

From Greenville, SC: I-85 South to GA 17. Left to Toccoa, GA. Take bypass GA 17 - GA 365 to Demorest-Helen exit (US Historic Route 441), Left to Demorest. Travel 1.5 miles to Florida St. (Exxon station on the right), take right. Straight thru stop sign, bus/van entrance to the Johnny Mize Center on left.
